ARTCOTIC, SOUTHWIND TEMPO
TAKE SPLIT HELEN DANCER MEMORIAL AT FREEHOLD FREEHOLD,
NJ - - Artcotic
held off a late charge from Kisskissbangbang to win the first division of the
Helen Dancer Memorial at Freehold on Friday.
The race marked the 33nd running
of the race named for the matriarch of the Dancer family.
Ron Pierce drove the George Teague, Jr. trained filly Artcotic as the 3-1
morning line favorite to take the winner’s share of the $ 72,515 purse.
Artcotic finished with a time of 1:55.1 and paid $ 3.40, 2.80, 2.40. In
the second division, Southwind Tempo led throughout to win in an impressive
1:53.4. Driven by Tim Tetrick, Southwind Tempo bested the field of nine and paid
$ 2.60, 2.40, 2.10. Elusive
Prey (Andy Miller) closed from the inside, but could only manage second and paid
$ 3.60, 3.00. Jerry’s Girl with
Ben Stafford, Jr. driving ($ 5.40) was third.
