Freehold Raises over $29,000 with "Racing Toward Recovery"

Freehold, NJ—-Freehold Raceway announced today that over $29,000 had been raised on Saturday, December 15 with “Racing Toward Recovery Day.” All money raised is being donated to The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Freehold pledged to donate all net proceeds from live racing to The FoodBank.

According to Freehold General Manager Howard Bruno, “This event would not have been such a huge success without the generous support of all of our sponsors.” Businesses and individuals were invited to sponsor a race, with all sponsorship proceeds donated to The FoodBank.

Major sponsors included the Penn National Gaming Foundation and The Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey.

Race sponsors were the Landy Family, Bongiorno Family, Showplace Farms, The Spano Family Charitable Foundation, Trinity Financial Sports & Entertainment Management Co, LLC, Edward Weiner & Edward Yarock Equine Scholarship Fund, Arden Homestead Stable, Robert Krivelin, Peter Gerry and The Delvin Miller Harness Drivers Association.

In addition, Freehold received donations of cash and non-perishable food items from patrons attending the races. Donations were also accepted at Freehold’s off track wagering facility, Favorites at Toms River.

“We are grateful to Freehold Raceway and all of the sponsors for this generous contribution to The FoodBank,” said Carlos Rodriguez, executive director of The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. “With their support, we will be able to continue our efforts to help communities along the Jersey Shore recover from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, as we work toward comprehensive solutions to hunger in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.”

The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties began in 1984 and today serves over 260 pantries, soup kitchens and other feeding programs with over 7 million pounds of food distributed annually.
